Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I have to pay anything to join UseMyAccent.com?
A, No. Membership is free for everyone.
Q. How do I record and upload my sample?
A. This is very easy to do. All you need (apart from internet access of course) is a microphone and headphones. In the Readers Forum, you'll find a post with step-by-step instructions and a link to download a free and easy-to-use voice recorder if you don't already have one on your computer.
Q. As an Actor, how do I know the accent I need will be authentic?
A. Readers are only allowed to register one accent - their own. Also, you will be able to listen to a sample of each Reader's voice, and choose the Reader whose accent and voice you prefer.
Q. How do I pay/ get paid for a reading?
A. When an Actor has chosen a Reader, he will contact the Reader via the site's messaging system. The Reader will then reply with an email address, to which the Actor can send the script and payment via PayPal.
Q. Do you take commission?
A. No. All payments are made directly from the Actor to the Reader and we don't charge any commission.
Q. How long will it take to receive the mp3 from the Reader?
A. This will depend on the Reader, but we encourage Readers to respond within 24 hours. When you contact the Reader, it's advisable to give them a time-scale and let them know how soon you'd like the recording. Actors can leave feedback on Reader's profiles, as well as comments in the Forums, so when you're searching for a Reader, look for good feedback to ensure prompt replies and good quality.
Q. How much do I get paid for reading?/ How much do I have to pay for a reading?
A. Readers set their own prices. This means Actors can "shop around". Readers are advised to keep their price low to begin with, until they have enough good feedback - after which they can raise them accordingly.
Q. Is there any support or advice for Readers and Actors.
A. Absolutely! UseMyAccent.com has great Forums, in which members can post questions and requests for help and advice.
Q. What are the International Coffee Shops?
A. International Coffee Shops are the dedicated Forums to specific Nationalities. In these "coffee shops" members of that nationality can share information about their country and culture. Actors researching a character whose culture they're unfamiliar with are able to pop into the appropriate coffee shop and learn a bit more about their character's background. They can also of course, ask questions.
Q. Is that all the FAQ's you have?
A. For the moment ;) Please contact us with any questions you have that aren't answered here, and we'll be happy to add them.
